Whether you’re setting off on a new dating adventure, planning for your weekly Saturday date night, or coordinating a special celebration, cooking with that special someone is a great way to spend quality time together. Working together to make something delicious, away from screens, can be a great change of pace during an otherwise hectic workweek. The ritual of cooking, itself, is a great way to get to know your date a little better and deepen your connection, regardless of how long you’ve known one another!
That said, it can be hard to decide what to cook, especially if you are early on in your dating adventure, or finding yourself in a mealtime rut. But, fear not! We got you boo.
Appetizers and Finger Foods
Noshing on something savory alongside a glass of wine is a great way to kick off a date night at home. It’s also a great way to lighten the mood, and like cooking itself, is a food-focused way of taking the pressure off you and your date.
Buttermilk Biscuit Spinach Dip
Eating with your hands has never been easier or more delicious than with our favorite Buttermilk Biscuit Spinach Dip. After sauteeing spinach with artichoke hearts, combine your veggies with a savory mix of mayonnaise, mozzarella and parmesan cheeses, salt and black pepper.
Unpackage and place Mason Dixie Buttermilk Biscuits in a ring around the edge of a cast-iron skillet. Then, place the dip mixture in the center of the skillet, inside your biscuit ring. Bake your skillet in a preheated oven at 375℉ for 25-30 minutes or until the Biscuits are golden brown. If you can stave off temptation (it might be very hard), allow the dip to cool, and then grab a Biscuit and dig in!
Take the pressure off yourself and your date, and keep your meal prep easy! Use these recipe ideas to take the focus off of “getting it right” so you can just have fun in the kitchen.
Who doesn’t love pizza? It’s a fan favorite almost every night of the week. Make these individually sized pizzas using a box of Mason Dixie Cheddar Biscuits, thawed overnight in the fridge, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and your favorite toppings.
To shape your Biscuit Pizzas, roll out the thawed Cheddar Biscuits into circles. Top the biscuit dough with tomato sauce, shredded mozzarella and your toppings of choice. Bake in an oven preheated at 375℉ for 10 minutes, then rotate your pizzas. Bake for another 10 minutes, then enjoy.
Cool nights call for warming meals and cuddling together on the couch. This easy Turkey Chili recipe makes it easy to spend more time together, and less time working away in the kitchen. Garlic and onions come together with a host of spices, canned tomatoes, beans and lean turkey to create a delicious stew that is perfect for a cozy night in.
Half the fun in date night chili is adding on an array of toppings. Our favorites include, but are not limited to:
- Shredded sharp cheddar or Monterey jack cheese
- Diced red onions
- Diced scallions
- Pickled or raw jalapenos
- Sour cream
- Crushed tortillas chips
Date Night Desserts
Chocolate Chip Scone Ice Cream Sandwich
Eating with your hands has never been sweeter than with Mason Dixie Chocolate Chip Scones and your favorite ice cream. This pair makes for a decadent sweet treat that works any time of day—brunch and lunch dates included!
Simply bake your scones in an oven preheated to 400℉ for 25 minutes. Though you might be tempted, it’s best to avoid opening the oven door during your bake. The steam collected in the oven makes for a flakier, lighter pastry.
Pour your favorite sprinkles or jimmies into a large dish. Once your scones are baked and cooled, cut them in half and fill them with your ice cream of choice. Roll the ice cream sandwich through the sprinkles and eat up!
No matter what you end up eating, spending quality time with your special someone in the kitchen allows for a lot of fun without all the pressure of an ordinary restaurant or bar date. When planning a cooking date at home, any of the meal elements above are sure to inspire great conversation, opportunity for collaboration and most importantly, a lot of good eating.
